The ethanol extract of the aerial parts of Vitis trifolia Linn. (Family-Vitaceae)
was subjected to preliminary phytochemical, antioxidant, antimicrobial and
cytotoxicity screqnings. Primary phytochemical analysis indicated the presence of
some major chemical groups in the plant extractive. The antioxidant activity was
evaluated using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl) and moderate free radical
scavenging activity was found (ICsg 436.516 Vg/ml). In case of antimicrobial
screening, it showed moderate inhibition against bacterial growth. In addition, the
extract also showed significant lethality to Artemia salina with a LCso value of 2.80
wg/ml.
