dc.description.abstractA number of biphenyl ester have been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic analysis. The structures of the esters were varied by attaching different number of alkoxy chains of different lengths. The compounds were exam-ined for their mesogenic behavior under polarizing microscope fitted with a hot and cold stage. The single chain es-ters exhibit the liquid crystallinity but the double and triple chain analogous do not show liquid crystallinity.en_US
